The three young men killed in the crash include: Jamahri Jayshaun Fuller, 20, Davion Marquez Patton, 17 and Allan Trevon-James Velox, 17. All of the men were from Benton Harbor.
Authorities say it happened at 5:11 a.m., Sunday, April 15, on M-139 near Rockey Weed Road in Royalton Township following a robbery at the Black Arsenal Gun Store. A witness called dispatch and gave a description of a gold four-door SUV that left the scene toward Red Arrow Highway. Lincoln Township Police were dispatched to the scene and found several long guns missing.
Around 5:26 a.m., a Berrien County Sheriff's deputy saw a vehicle that matched the description, on I-94 eastbound near the 27 mile marker. The deputy flicked on his lights and initiated a traffic stop. The SUV stopped on the side of the road for a moment before speeding off. The deputy took off after the SUV.
The pursuit continued eastbound on I-94 where the SUV exited at M-139 and turned southbound toward Scottsdale. The SUV continued on M-139, where the driver lost control north of Rockey Weed Road and crashed into a large tree.
The Berrien County Sheriff's Office requests that Michigan State Police investigate the crash, along with the 5th District Special Investigation Section.
Upon completion of the internal review, which included a review of the in-car video of the incident, the Berrien County Sheriff's Office found no wrong doing on the part of the two deputies involved in this incident. Based on these findings the two deputies are being returned to work effective, Monday, April 23.
