The warmer temperatures might be the spring weather we all have been waiting for, but dry, windy conditions have created an elevated fire risk for most of the state.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is asking everyone to restrict outdoor burning Tuesday.

And the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Red Flag Warning from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for most counties in the state including Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella, Muskegon, Montcalm, Gratiot, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton,

Ingham, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson.

“We are currently seeing a significant increase in wildfire activity,” Paul Rogers, fire prevention specialist for the DNR, said in a news release.

“We are asking residents to restrict outdoor burning due to dry conditions.” The DNR also has canceled plans for prescribed burns Tuesday.

Tuesday temperatures are expected to hit 80 degrees with winds gusts up to 35 mph according to the NWS.
