A traffic stop for defective equipment led to the seizure of crack cocaine Monday afternoon.
According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, a deputy observed a vehicle travelling eastbound on Interstate 94 near Wadhams Road at about 4 p.m. Monday with a defective tail light. The deputy pulled the vehicle over and discovered the driver had a suspended license.
Further investigation found the two passengers in the vehicle also had suspended licenses. After talking with all three people who were in the 2003 Dodge Caravan, the deputy found the female passenger was holding about $7,000 worth of crack cocaine, which was confiscated, as were cash and cell phones.
The driver, a 28-year-old man from Detroit, was arrested, along with the passengers: a 26-year-old man from Southgate and a 19-year-old woman from Detroit.
They are lodged at the St. Clair County jail. The driver is expected to charges including possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine and driving while license suspended. The other two suspects will face charges including possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine.
