Albert 'Bud' Rybarczyk, a WWII Navy Airman from St. Joseph, was finally laid to rest on Monday, Dec. 11.

Rybarczyk was 22 years old when his plane went down in the South Pacific in September 1944. He had been listed as missing in action for over 70 years, until a positive DNA identification was confirmed in August of this year.

Project Recover and the BentProp Project work together to find and identify the remains of missing WWII soldiers. They, along with the Scripps Oceanographic Institute and the University of Delaware, found Rybarczyk's crash site in 2014.

The Navy paid for a full military funeral, and Rybarczyk was buried next to his parents at St. Joseph Resurrection cemetery.
