If you've ever wondered when you should be showering, Harvard University researchers found the answer.

It depends.

Researchers say showering in the morning can help get your creative juices flowing.

Shelley Carson, a psychology lecturer at Harvard, says showers make you both relaxed and alert, which encourages creativity.

Carson told greatist.com, “If you were to come up with a problem that you wanted to solve creatively, and you were working and working on it and couldn’t come up with a solution, then you could put it on the back burner of your mind and allow it to stew there while unconscious processes mull it over.”

On the other hand, showering at night can help you relax and de-stress.

This happens because your body temperature is raised during the hot shower, then drops when you cool off. According to Christopher Winter, a fellow at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the body is fooled into thinking it's time to go to bed.

An evening shower can also reduce cortisol levels, and rinse away dirt your skin collects throughout the day.
