City leaders in Muskegon have high hopes for the old farmers market property.
The city just listed the 15-acre downtown site with a commercial real estate firm. The large empty lot is listed for $149,000.
It's on Yuba Street along the U.S. 31 business route. The city moved the farmers market from the site in 2014.
Muskegon is pitching the site as a great place for a housing development.
"One, if you are looking for access to the highway it is very accessible, at the same time we think that depending on the type of home from the second floor they would have some lake views, it is walk able to the bike path, and to Muskegon Lake and very walk able to downtown," said Muskegon City Manager Frank Peterson. "So it gives you the opportunity to live in a neighborhood but still have easy access to all the things that make Muskegon very attractive."
The city also listed a second significant property for sale. That site is the former Amoco Tank Farm at Laketon Avenue and Lakeshore Drive. The land is on Muskegon Lake but needs environmental remediation.
