A local food pantry will benefit from the Meijer's LPGA Simply Give campaign after a worthwhile partnership.
The North West Food Pantry has partnered with the Meijer store on Alpine in order to provide patrons with gift cards that will go towards food and baby products.
"People can go in, purchase the $10 card, give it to the cashier, she scans it in to the computer, adds $10 to your bill, there you have now donated to our food pantry," North West Food Pantry Director Waverly Knight said.
"If it wasn't for the Meijer Simply Give, our shelves would be very bare," Knight said.
The Simply Give Program makes up about 70-percent of this pantry's food supply.
"Right now, per day we're averaging anywhere from 35-45 a day. Some days we might have 50 to 60 some days we might only have 10 or 15, and the weather is a big part of it too because a lot of our clients walk or ride their bike," Knight said.
The pantry welcomes new faces, every day. Sometimes there are single people, families, elderly people -- the food pantry sees a mixture of all different kinds of families in all different kinds of situations -- all trying to make ends meet.
A number of people come in and cry Knight says.
"They've never had to do this before, they don't know where to go, what to do and how to get started," Knight explained. "we're there to help them with that as well."
The LPGA Classic continues to get the word out about the Simply Give Campaign -- and now, there's even more ways to donate. There's a Text to Give Option throughout the tournament week. Donations of any denomination can be made by texting "SimplyGive" to 444999. You'll receive up to five automated text messages.
The last three tournaments have generated more than $2.1 million for food pantries in all of the communities it serves.
