Meijer Simply Give campaign: How you can help

The annual Meijer Simply Give Campaign is in full swing.

The annual Meijer Simply Give Campaign is in full swing.

"You can go in to any Meijer store right now through June 18 and purchase a $10 Simply Give donation card at checkout," Meijer Public Relations Manager Christina Fecher said.

That gift card will go directly to the food pantry partnering with that specific store partners.

"If you go to the Knapps Corner store, that store partners with a different food pantry than down the road on 28th Street," Fecher said.

For the fourth year in a row, the campaign coincides with the Meijer LPGA Classic. It began around Mother's Day weekend and continues until June 18. It happens three times a year, during the spring time, fall and around the holiday season.

"The Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give begins June 13 and runs through June 18," Fecher said. "We will have the world's best players on the LPGA tour here at Blythefield Country Club."

All the money raised during the LPGA Classic will go toward the simply give campaign.

"That money is disbursed to all our food pantry partners across the Midwest," Fecher said.

The last three tournaments have generated more than $2 million.

"$1 equals 11 meals according to Feeding America, so the $28 million that the Simply Give program has generated since its inception in 2008 at Meijer, really equates to 308 million meals for hungry families across the Midwest," Fecher said.

Since 2008, the Simply Give campaign has raised $28 million across the Midwest.

"The Simply Give program touches every Meijer store that we have across the Midwest, that's 237 stores in six states," Fecher said.

The gift card will go to the food pantries to stock their shelves for their clients. Along with food items, the gift cards also works towards diapers, baby wipes and formula.
