People living in Rockford have a chance to meet the five candidates vying for the open City Manager position. Mayor Steve Jazwiec announced the finalists on Monday July 10, 2017.
The position has been opened since late January, 2016, when City Manager, Michael Young died after suffering a stroke. He had held the position since 1995. He was 48 years old.
They candidates were chosen by the city council at a special closed session on July 5. They were selected from a list of 31 applicants. The city hired a consultant from the Michigan Municipal League, who presented nine pre-screened candidates to the city council.
The five finalists are;
- Elizabeth Ladner - the City Manager in South Lyon Michigan.
- Adam Poll - the Planning and Development Director for the city of Alpena.
- Jonathan Seyferth - the Assistant City Manager in Coopersville.
- Thad Beard - the Otsego City Manager.
- Jon Schneider - the City Manager in Newaygo.
The candidates will take part in a meet-and-greet, scheduled for July 18, 2017. The event will take place at Rockford City Hall from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. City leaders expect the candidates will make a brief introduction of themselves.
The public is welcome to attend the interviews on July 19 at city hall. The first interview begins at 9:00 a.m. The new city manager will be selected after the final interview.
