Cancer survivors, care takers and supporters showed up at Sparta Middle School's track to take place in the 11th Relay For Life event today.

Opening ceremonies featured words from leaders and supporters before the survivors and caretakers took the first lap.

Molly Schmid, an event volunteer, is all too familiar with cancer. Her seven-year old daughter, Grace, is a survivor. That's only part of the reason they volunteer.

"We've been affected by cancer," said Schmid. "Everyone we know has been affected by cancer in some way Family members, loved ones. We need to unite to end it. In every community there is someone affected by cancer so they need to know that every community will wrap their arms around those people and take care of them."

Live auctions, food and music also were at the event in order to raise money. If you'd like to get involved with Relay For Life, or want more information on how to donate click here.
