About one thousand people gathered at Millennium Park Saturday morning to participate in the Step Up for Down Syndrome walk.

Lt. Gov. Brian Calley served as Grand Marshall for the walk. The theme was "Once Upon a Time" and many walkers wore costumes and crowns to celebrate.

Organizers say the goal of the walk is to raise awareness and encourage inclusion of individuals with Down Syndrome in our society.

In addition to raising awareness, the walk is also a fundraiser for the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan. Organizers say the group blew their $125,000 goal out of the water by topping $140,000.
