The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office is searching for a reckless driver who crashed into a car in Waverly Township and caused extensive damage to a front yard in Bloomingdale Township.
Deputies were first called to County Road 665 north of 28th Avenue in Waverly Township just before midnight for a two car crash. Both cars were traveling south on County Road 665 when the victim attempted to pass the suspect, who was driving slowly in an unknown early 90's, gray Chevrolet pickup truck.
The suspect swerved towards him and hit the victim's car. Both drivers lost control of their vehicles and slide off the road into a corn field. The suspect quickly left the crash headed south on County Road 665, deputies say.
Later, deputies were called to 40th Street and 8th Avenue in Bloomingdale Township on reports of a pickup truck driving through another person's yard and causing extensive damage. The pickup truck is reported to have driven up onto the property from 40th Street, turfing up a large portion of the front yard.
The homeowner went out to the yard to see what was going on and stepped in front of the pickup truck. The suspect tried to back up the pickup truck to leave and when trying to go around the homeowner nearly hitting them. The suspect crashed into a ditch but was able to get out and back onto 40th Street.
Deputies say the suspect vehicle should have damage to the front driver side bumper and missing the passenger mirror. The suspect driver is described as being in his late teens to early 20's and may be with a passenger.
The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office is urging anyone who see's the truck or has any further information about either of these incidents to contact them at 269-657-3101 or submit the tip online at www.vbcsheriff.com.
