Investigators say a Kalamazoo man is being held by police in Indiana, after two murders in southwest Michigan.
32 year-old Zachary Patten is now in custody, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. He was arrested in South Bend, Indiana.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor tells WZZM 13's Meghan Bunchman Patten turned himself in peacefully and is awaiting extradition.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says Patten shot and killed a 31-year-old woman just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20, and then shot and killed a man in Constantine at 10:15 p.m.
Witnesses say the woman was shot following an argument on Tray Lane near Lilac Lane. When officers arrived, they tried to revive her, but she died at the scene. Police say the victim was an innocent bystander.
Additionally, police say Patten forced his way into a home in Constantine, where he shot and killed a man at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday. The victim later died at the hospital. Police say the victim was married to Patten's ex-wife.
