Taste of My Town: Brass Ring Brewing

In this week's Taste of My Town, we check out a new brewery in Alger Heights.

Brass Ring Brewing is a brand new craft brewery in Alger Heights. Their emphasis on small batch, style specific, fresh beer seems to agree with the neighborhood.

"It's an actual neighborhood brewery which you don't see much any more," said one visitor.

The people of Alger Heights are giving Brass Ring Brewing a warm welcome.

"This is a place to come to meet your neighbors, meet your friends, spend some time relaxing after work with a pint and chill and enjoy yourself," he said.

That's music to the ears of owner and head brewer Chris Gibbons who launched Brass Ring with some fellow lawyers as a retirement career.

"Brass Ring Brewing is all about first of all, world class beer, we are specializing in small batch specific, style specific pub style ales, porters and stouts, so English ales, session-able ales. The reason for that is we are a very community-oriented neighborhood brewery. A big part of our focus is serving Alger Heights. People in this neighborhood can walk to their brewery and have a session-able ale.

And they are doing something that sets them apart: "We only use four ingredients to make our beer, so no chemicals, no flavorings, no additives, no stabilizers. On the wall you'll see four paintings, we call them the muses, water, grain, hops and yeast. Those are the 4 ingredients we use to make beer, that is it," said Chris.

But folks don't come just for the brews. "Right now we are featuring a polish sausage platter, things that we think are American comfort foods. Our Alger is braised chicken over mashed potatoes with a white pearl onion gravy and brioche, it's just the bomb," said Chris.

And did we mention the beer snacks? The homemade caramel corn and beer cheese with soft pretzels are fan favorites.

With just 8 weeks under their belt, Chris and his co-owners are thrilled at the response and are excited to keep growing.

"We started with 7 beers, we are up to ten and the nice thing about having a small batch brewery is that it moves fast enough so we really are quite flexible in how many beers we can offer. The ultimate goal is to have 14 beers on tap," said Chris.

Brass Ring Brewing is open five days a week, Tuesday-Saturday at 4pm.
