All lanes are back open after two deadly accidents in west Michigan on Friday, March 3, 2017.
The first happened on southbound U.S. 131 at Stadium Drive where three people are dead , and two others are critical. According to the undersheriff, a driver got on the wrong ramp resulting in a head-on collision.
A car with a 59-year-old male driving and 88 year old passenger was struck by southbound pickup truck in the northbound lane, the pickup was driven by a 56-year-old Kalamazoo man.
The driver and second passenger of the pickup truck were injured taken to the hospital. Three others were killed in the crash. The names of victims have not been released yet. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
All lanes were cleared just before 8 p.m.
Another wreck happened in Kent County closing westbound I -96 near the M-6 interchange in Cascade Township around 3 p.m.
Michigan State Police says the SUV struck the read end of a four door sedan, causing both drivers to lose control of their vehicles. The SUV, driven by a 53-year-old Lowell woman, rolled over multiple times severly injuring the driver.
The 53-year-old woman was transported to Spectrum-Butterworth hospital, where she later died.
The sedan driver and their passenger, both from DeWitt, were not injured.
All lanes there shortly opened up just after 8 p.m.
