In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, you might be waiting to find out the fate of your Facebook information.

Of the 87 million people who might have had their information shared with the data firm, Facebook said most of the affected users are in the U.S.

Earlier this week, the social network began alerting people on their news feeds.

For some, a notification hasn't popped up, and for others it disappeared when the app was closed.

13 On Your Side Verified: Is there an easy way to find out if your information was compromised?

THE ANSWER

Yes. According to Facebook's Help Center, it's alerts link to: facebook.com/help/yourinfo.

The link sends you to a page called "How can I tell if my info was shared with Cambridge Analytica?"

Here Facebook tells you if your information was shared.

The link also has more information about what happened, and how you can remove apps and websites if you don't want them to have access to your information.

VERSIONS OF THE MESSAGE

The message Facebook is sending to people can come in three versions.

The one you get depends on whether your information might have been improperly shared.

Two of them specify whether you or a friend used Facebook to log into the app "This Is Your Digital Life," which might have given your information to Cambridge Analytica.

The other version is more generic - just covering account settings.

Facebook's plans for preventing this from happening in the future include making it easier to manage the apps you use, turning off access for unused apps and restricting Facebook login data.
