More than a hundred people gathered in downtown Grand Rapids for the one year anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando. A candle light vigil was held at The Apartment Lounge in Grand Rapids.
Speakers expressed a message of unity and support for the LGBTQ community.
Every single name of the 49 victims was read aloud. Organizers say it's a good reminder to show love in the world.
"We've learned a lot in the past year, we've learned that hate exists more than we thought, we've got more rights than we've ever had but we're not about to give up, this is about remembering, about moving forward, never being afraid and creating a future for everybody, because together we can all make a difference, that's what it's all about," says Bob Johnson and organizer.
Around a thousand dollars was raised at the vigil, that money will be donated to a fund for the Orlando victims.
