The Grand Rapids Griffins need to start picking up as many points as possible as they trail the Chicago Wolves in the Central Division coming into Wednesday's game with the Charlotte Checkers.
With just three games left in the season, the Griffins may need to get all 6 points to take back first place in the division and home ice advantage.
It was the Checkers who got on the board first as Andrew Poturalski wraps around the net and beats Jared Coreau in the first period to take the 1-0 lead.
Charlotte held the lead to end the first and in the second a lucky bounce helped the Griffins tie it up as Mitch Callahan's pass around the boards kicks out in front of the net to a wide open Matthew Ford who scores on a wide open net.
The game would go to overtime and then a shoot out. Both the Griffins and Checkers traded two goals and then both missed in the third round. In Round 4, Coreau makes a big save on one end and Filip Hronek scores for the Griffins on the other end to give Grand Rapids the win and the crucial two points to tie Chicago in the division.
