The Grand Rapids Griffins have no problem seeing the Cleveland Monsters sitting in last place of the Central Division.
Last spring, the Monsters, then known as the Lake Erie Monsters, knocked the Griffins out of the playoffs on their way to an AHL title.
Entering Wednesday night's game in Grand Rapids, the Monsters have just 3 wins and sit at the bottom of the Central Division standings.
The Griffins did their job to keep them down with a 5-4 shoot out win.
Anthony Mantha scored his 8th goal of the season in the first period before the Monsters sped out to a 3-1 lead.
Marty Frk scored two power play goals to tie the game for the Griffins at 3.
Eventually the game went to a shootout after a 4-4 tie through overtime.
Mantha scored in the second shootout round and the Monsters' Aaron Palushaj scored in the third.
After a Monster miss in the fourth round, Griffins' rookie Evgeny Svechnikov scored to give the Griffins the win.
The Griffins' next game is Friday night at 7 PM at Van Andel Arena versus the Rockford IceHogs.
