VIDEO: 3 people safe after boat gets caught in the 6th Street Dam

Three people are reportedly safe after their boat got stuck in the 6th Street Dam Wednesday afternoon.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Three fishermen are safe after an accident at a Grand Rapids dam.

Around 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, three people attempting to fish near the 6th Street Dam on the Grand River found themselves stuck. One of the three on the boat put the anchor down, however, it got caught on a log and their boat was pulled into the hill of the dam.

Authorities say the boaters were unable to get the anchor loose and the boat began to fill with water -- overturning multiple times. The three people in the boat were forced into the water, but were able to swim away.

"I was amazed that these men were not smashed up against the dam and injured because you can see how quickly a boat can turn," says Bill Smith with the Grand Rapids Fire Department.

The boaters were picked up by another boat and taken to shore. No one was injured and crews were able to retrieve the boat.
