Griffins forward Turgeon treated for blood clot, 'feeling better'

Dominic Turgeon initially thought the swelling in his arm was from a bruise, turns out it was something much more serious.

Griffins forward Dominic Turgeon thought he had a bruise on his arm, but it was swollen for a couple of days.

Once he got it checked out, Turgeon was immediately rushed to surgery. It turns out that he had a blood clot between his collarbone and his first rib, which is called thoracic outlet syndrome.

"It's a scary thing, just coming out of nowhere," said Turgeon. "It's not ideal, but it happens."

Dr. Ryan Turley performed a procedure to alleviate the clot two weeks. Turgeon then saw Dr. Karl Illig who successfully treated Tampa Bay Lightning player Steven Stamkos for a similar condition two years aho.

On five players have had that type of surgery.

Turgeon will miss the rest of the postseason, but he was back at practice on April 24, supporting his teammates.

"I'd love to be playing in the playoffs for sure, but I gotta focus on being 100 percent healthy," he said.

He also says that he'll be ready for training camp despite the health scare.
