The Whitecaps earned their 10th extra-innings win of the season on Thursday when they walked off against the Cedar Rapids Kernels in the 10th inning, 3-2.
Whitecaps starter Alfred Gutierrez was untouchable in the first few innings. He took a no-hitter into the 6th inning before giving up a solo home run to Gorge Munoz, which tied the game 1-1. A sacrifice fly later in the inning by Lewin Diaz to give the Kernels a 2-1 lead.
Zac Shepherd singled home a run in the 8th to tie the game 2-2 and send it into extras.
In the 10th, Danny Pinero drilled a ball to the gap in left-center for a double and catcher Austin Athmann hustled all the way from first base to score the winning row to give the Whitecaps their 60th win of the season.
