Child remains in critical condition after being hit by vehicle

The two children were taken the hospital, where the 12-year-old was treated for broken bones, and the six-year-old remains in critical.

Police in Grand Rapids are investigating after two children were taken to the hospital following a car versus pedestrian crash.

One of the children is in critical condition, police said. According to a release, the crash happened Tuesday, March 20 around 4:40 p.m. when two children, ages six and 12, were crossing S. Division Ave. near Shelby St.S.W. after getting off the Rapid bus.

The children did not cross at an intersection, according to police, and were hit by a car which remained on scene.

The two children were taken the hospital, where the 12-year-old was treated for broken bones, and the six-year-old remains in critical.

Police say, roads in the area were closed for a short while after the crash. Police added that, investigators do not believe that alcohol or speed are factors in this crash.
