GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grab the turkey, stuffing, and sunglasses because if you're hitting the road today there will be plenty of sunshine.

No matter where you're traveling across the state we are looking at a smooth-sailing travel forecast. Mostly sunny skies, light winds, and seasonable temperatures are expected. Tonight will start off clear with skies becoming mostly cloudy. Temperatures will be cool with an overnight low of 30°. Winds are out of the S-SE at 4 to 8 mph.

Thanksgiving won't feature sunshine but temperatures remain seasonable with an afternoon high of 47°. Winds out of the south at 4 to 8 mph. Thanksgiving night brings a chance for light rain. It will be very hit-or-miss and minimal. Our overnight low will sit at 37° with south winds at 4 to 8 mph.

This is great news considering Thanksgiving has brought a little bit of everything in years past. The warmest Thanksgiving, when dinners were likely enjoyed on the patio, was 65°. The coldest was a bitter 7° in 1929. We have had years of 100% sunshine and nearly 7 inches of snowfall. I think cloudy with seasonable temperatures is a great happy medium.

Skies become sunny on Blake Friday with seasonable temperatures near 44°. Winds shift to the NW-W at 5 to 10 mph. Saturday will be even milder with a forecast high of 51°. Late overnight Saturday into Sunday brings our next chance for rain to the region. Skies will be cloudy with periods of rain and possibly a few snowflakes come Sunday. This will likely be the most impactful day of travel, although it should not be bad. Rainfall totals over the next several days are minimal.
