WZZM 13 5:30& 6 & 11 PM News Anchor
Juliet joined WZZM 13 in April of 1991 and is the Co-Anchor of the 5:30 PM, 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM weekday newscasts. She also does special reports for the newscasts.
Juliet is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and started her broadcast career "behind the scenes," doing electronic graphics and producing at WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh. She was a Newscast Producer in Huntsville, Alabama and began her on-air career in Rock Island, Illinois as a reporter, later becoming a news anchor. Juliet returned to Pittsburgh, where she was a reporter/anchor before coming to Grand Rapids.
Among her career highlights at WZZM 13, Juliet traveled to Bosnia in 1996 to cover the aftermath of their civil war. She participated in a presidential town meeting with George Bush and she's flown in an F-16 Falcon with the Air Force Thunderbirds. She's also traveled to Hollywood, and to New York City, where she went behind the scenes with Judge Judy and with Regis Philbin of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"
Juliet's been honored with several awards, most recently the Special Olympics Michigan award for Outstanding Media Support and the Associated Press Best Feature for a story she and Co-Anchor, Lee Van Ameyde, did on "Men Versus Women Drivers." She also received the "Professionalism Award" from American Women in Radio and Television. She's received national recognition as one of the "Outstanding Young Women of America." Juliet was also given a "Local Hero" award from the Susan G. Komen Foundation for her work in bringing about awareness of breast cancer.
Juliet is the station spokesperson for the WZZM 13 "Friends for Life" campaign, which encourages monthly breast self-exams for early detection of breast cancer (Facts For My Friends For Life). She's hosted the Grand Rapids "Race for the Cure" for nine years and is also the Honorary Race Chair. She volunteers her time for many community causes and events including the Grand Rapids Symphony and is involved in numerous fundraisers and events to help local children and families. Juliet serves on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross Great Lakes Region, Bio-Medical Services.
Juliet has a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from Point Park College in Pittsburgh, PA. She's an avid pro football fan and the Steelers are her favorite team! Juliet enjoys wateraerobics and other cardio and weight training. She also enjoys reading and collecting gemstones. Juliet is married to Phil Dawson. They have a cat named Topaz.
