HOLLAND, MICH. - Seventy Six is downtown Holland's newest restaurant, having opened just a few weeks ago.
Located on 8th Street just west of River Ave, it's in the center of lots of new development happening in the city. And that's exactly the way restaurateur Lucas Grill likes it.
"There are going to be condos and restaurants and more shops all on this block and it's going to be incredible," said Lucas. "We couldn't be happier bring right in the middle of the action."
Grill can't contain his excitement when talking about his latest venture, Seventy Six. "We are all about modern American food. We have our sister restaurant Public in Zeeland known for our hand crafted comfort food. Here we kind of want to do an upscale kind of twist to that and so we have an amazing, amazing modern American food, craft cocktails, an awesome wine list, really cool atmosphere, fun vibe."
And it's already getting high praise. "This meal is beyond excellent," said one diner. "I'm having the crab cakes on fingerling potatoes and it's the best I've ever had in Michigan."
"This is the 4th time I've had this particular dish," said another diner. "That's why I'm here...just to eat it [the crab cakes] again."
"The food was excellent and the service was really good as well," said another. "I really enjoyed it. I had the tomato soup, their heirloom tomato. The soup was really, really good."
The lobster rangoons have been a huge crowd pleaser. "We had to fight over the last one," laughed a diner.
Lucas shows us how they come together with a demo in the kitchen. He ways they are by far his best-selling appetizer.
And don't forget the dessert. "Butterscotch bread pudding is our best selling dessert right now," he explained.
"The thing I love about this place is we are different than anywhere on the lakeshore," he said. "It's not fine dining, it's still family friendly. But it's all really good from scratch homemade food at a great price."
