5K course challenges runners to escape 'zombies'

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - "Zombies" will be taking over the streets of Grand Rapids this weekend during the annual "Zombie Dash" 5K race. The event, in its fifth year, caters to thrill-seekers and race enthusiasts.

Runners begin by enter the quarantine zone located at the south side of 6th Street Park on the Riverwalk. They are encouraged to pick up the pace near Fish Ladder Park, which is marked as the first zombie feeding zone. The thrills continue throughout the entire course.

This year's Zombie Dash 5K will start at sunset on Saturday, Oct. 22. The start of the race and finish line will be located at 647 Monroe NW, in downtown Grand Rapids.

Those that want to participate, as either a runner or a zombie, must register by 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20.

A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit  Michigan Blood and the Michigan Blood Stem Cell Programs.
