Butterflies Are Blooming Exhibition and Companion Exhibition 'The Caterpillar Room'

Weekend Adventure: Butterflies are Blooming

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The Fred and Dorothy Fichter Butterflies Are Blooming exhibition runs through April 30.

During this exhibition, more than 7,000 butterflies are released in the Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory. There is also a companion exhibition happening in the Grace Jarecki Seasonal Display Greenhouse which is the Caterpillar Room.

In the Caterpillar Room, you will find Monarch Caterpillars munching away on various types of milkweed plants.

During the exhibit the Meijer Gardens receives about 700 Monarch caterpillars and 60 Monarch Pupa. The Monarch caterpillars will make their chrysalis in the planting beds, it is fun to see what they make their chrysalis on, whether it be a planter, or the structures in the glass house or even on other plants like Tulips.
