FRIDAY GLOW IN THE PARK & SATURDAY NIGHTTIME HALLOWEEN PARADE FOR ADULTS
DOUGLAS, Michigan – The leaves are just starting to change colors but it’s not too early to start planning for Douglas Halloween in Michigan this year. The events kick off at 7 PM on Friday, October 28th, with Glow in the Park for families at Beery Field, downtown. Saturday, October 29th, the crowd lines up for the 10 PM Halloween Parade for Adults down Center Street.
Douglas Halloween is building on past success this year. The overwhelming response to Douglas' 2015 Glow in the Park celebration was astonishing and the Halloween Parade for Adults seemed to surpass previous years in numbers of people. The planners have expanded the site for Glow in the Park, and they are adding more music along the Parade route.
GLOW IN THE PARK One of the newest event in town, returns as an all inclusive second year kick-off party for the Halloween weekend in Douglas, Michigan. In response to growing Halloween tourism and overall community enthusiasm, event planners of the Halloween Parade for Adults thought it was about time to expand the weekend events to include a Friday evening family friendly event where "anything that glows goes." The response to the 2015 Glow Party was wonderful. Families came in the droves to celebrate Halloween in Douglas' Beery Field.
This year there will be music, food and drink, along with plenty of fun glow-in the-dark activities for the kids including UV reactive face painting, and we have added a ride, fun for kids and their parents, The Terrainables, a fun-tested caterpillar like ride That takes passengers from Beery Field to Wades Bayou and back, with some fun in between. Come fully decked out in your own glow attire, or get your glow on when you arrive, with glow necklaces, bracelets, UV face painting, and our official 2016 Pumpkin King glow in the dark mascot T-shirts!
NIGHTTIME HALLOWEEN PARADE FOR ADULTS The Halloween parade that draws thousands to the lakeshore continues to expand its web of frightening fun. The Douglas Halloween Parade for Adults is 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, on Center Street in downtown Douglas with lineup at 9:30 p.m. Thousands of costumed participants and spectators are expected. Over the past years, our Halloween parade has grown into one of the biggest events of the year, drawing spectators from all around the country.
“It's always the last Saturday before Halloween.", says Erin Wilkinson. The nighttime Halloween parade started about 18 years ago by Ginger Wilkinson, Erin’s mother, for fun and to bring more people to downtown Douglas. The parade has grown in popularity and is now an economic driver in both the cities of Douglas and Saugatuck, and in Saugatuck Township, helping to fill lodging establishments and restaurants in an otherwise quiet season.
Join us and find out why it's so much fun... and if you're interested in being more than a spectator, get into the lineup and strut your stuff down the parade route. Hundreds of costumed revelers parade in festive colors and shapes. Fantastical creations, dancing flash mobs and individual Divas assume the runway with thousands of expectant spectators standing on both sides. But don't forget, our giant parade mascot, The Pumpkin King, rises from the ashes at ten-o-clock to get the whole thing rolling!
OUR COMMUNITY The support of our three communities for Douglas Halloween is wonderful. The weekend of festivities is brought about by the good people of The Douglas DPW, The Interurban, The Saugatuck Township Fire Department, The Saugatuck Douglas Police Department, The City of Douglas, and our dedicated volunteers who serve up a warm welcome.
PARKING Parking in Douglas will be spare. We will have additional parking at Schultz park and a $2 per person shuttle (pays for your round trip to/from parking) The shuttle will run form 8:00pm to 9:45 pm (last run) and then after the parade it will run until 1:00 am. Pickup and drop off will be at Unity Church at the SE corner of Beery field. The Interurban will be running free 7pm until 2am.
