Pine Rest addresses the growing mental health needs of teens, young adults

Pine Rest

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Statistics show, three-quarters of lifetime mental illnesses begin by age 24. Experts say it’s because of physical changes in the brain starting with puberty and finishing in the early 20’s.

Other statistics show that one in five teens will suffer from a mental illness. Up to 80 percemt of those go without treatment or delay it for an average of eight years.

Without treatment, teens with mental illness experience a high rate of difficulties at home, school and in the community. For those reasons, and many more, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health is addressing the needs of teens and young adults.

They’ve recently opened a new unit that will allow them to treat more teens and young adults each year. We got a chance to take a tour.
