Frederik Meijer Gardens offers activites for kids all summer long

Summer activities planned at Meijer Gardens

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Frederik Meijer Gardens is helping families get out of the house this summer. 

The Lena Meijer Children’s Garden has a list of fun just for kids. There are also special Independence Day activities, starting at 11 a.m. 

Wonderful Weaving: Mondays 11 a.m.

Kids can explore the variety of weaving found in nature in the Children's Garden. It includes story time and a "fingers-on" weaving activity. 

Summer Story Time: Tuesdays 11 a.m.

Imaginations run wild, as puppets travel through enchanted worlds and go on daring adventures. 

Outdoor Artist Studio: Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m.

Local artists will be in the Children's Garden for informal art experiences. Kids will get creative with everyday materials like paper, crayons and clay. 

Making Music: Wednesdays, 11 a.m.

Local musicians will lead the beat for kids to clap, stomp or sing along. 

Summer Dance- Animal Movements: Thursdays, 11 a.m.

Kids will dance along with improv instructors using moves inspired by animal movements and sculptures around the garden. 

Garden Helpers: Fridays, 11 a.m.

Kids can learn how butterflies, hummingbirds, worms and bees help out in the garden. It includes close-up observations, interactive stories, and clever hunts. 

Science Sundays: Sundays, 2 p.m.

Guests will get a closer look at Michigan animals and learn facts about reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish. Kids will learn simple ways of identification and the importance of conservation.
