GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Summer is right around the corner, and so is the last day of school. Though, it's a very exciting time for kids and parents, it's also important to remind your kids about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
Ryan Bekins from ARCpoint Labs joined the Weekend Morning Show to share these tips:
Be Present and Available
Make sure that your children have a line of communication with you and a way to reach out with "code" or "safe" words (when in crowded or embarrassing environments) or other means to let you know they need support. This can be a huge step towards letting them enjoy the break safely.
Trust Your Senses
If you notice a change in your child, there is probably a reason. If their room smells different or they seem like they are hiding something, be open about the changes you notice and sit them down to discuss.
Even though school is out for several months, students should still have boundaries and guidelines to follow. Sit them down to discuss a curfew and check-ins.
