This badly dehydrated Weimeraner puppy was found walking along a road.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM)-If you think this heat is tough to take, try going outside in a fur coat.

Workers at Pound Buddies Rescue in Muskegon say they're seeing more dogs suffering from dehydration. Volunteers say the best thing you can do for your pets is limit their time outdoors, give them a cool, shady place to rest, and make sure they have enough water.

"The heat takes a huge toll on the animals. They don't have a way to get water for themselves; they're dependent on us," explains shelter volunteer Cindi Kaiser. "It's very important in this kind of weather because they're wearing fur coats. We're not. And they're sweating a whole lot more than we are."

Kaiser says the rescue is also seeing more runaway pets that were scared off by fireworks.
