Easter service held for Grand Rapids veterans

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - A special Easter service was held Sunday for some of the local veterans who had no where else to go.

"I am a Vietnam veteran," shared Tom Grosser. He has lived at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans for 15 years. "I try to go to church on Sunday," he said, but Tom has a tough time getting around. "I wish I could see my sister today, but she's got to manage herself."

Tom is not along. Hundreds at the Veterans Home want to celebrate Easter, but their options are limited. That's why the Masonic Knights Templar steps in to help. "This is our fourth annual service here, so we can get the veterans involved," said Mike Brennan, a commander of the Knights. "We try to honor our veterans and honor Christ....afterwards, we go and solute our fallen veterans at the cemetery."

This simple visit by the Knights is a big gift to many of the veterans, and it has put Tom at peace on one of his favorite days. "I feel good...I won't be by myself on Easter, and I have all my veterans."
