Hudsonville's Vernors-inspired Detroit ice cream is now available

The "Comeback Cooler" is here!

Hudsonville Ice Cream's "Flavor of Detroit" -- French Vanilla ice cream with a Vernors-inspired ginger ale twist - is now available in select stores, the Holland-based creamery said, and will be more widely available in November.

The flavor, named Comeback Cooler, is the result of a contest held earlier this year that asked ice cream fans to submit flavor combinations that best described the "Flavor of Detroit."

Tracy Heureux of Plymouth submitted the winning flavor, a take on the famous Boston Cooler flavor (named after Detroit's Boston Boulevard, not the East Coast city).

“Comeback Cooler recreates a classic Detroit float favorite and we look forward to sharing this Flavor of Detroit with our fans,” CJ Ellens, director of sales & marketing at Hudsonville, said in a statement.

“We spent quite a bit of time in Detroit this year, connecting with members of the community and sharing a sweet summer with them. This flavor really speaks to the spirit of Detroit, and we are thrilled to share it with everyone.”

Comeback Cooler is a limited-edition flavor, Hudsonville said, produced in a small seasonal batch.

Hudsonville introduced three other flavors in spring 2017: Bananas Foster, Peanut Butter Cheesecake and Peanut Butter Pretzel.
