Kentwood holds annual tree lighting

This year the city celebrated their 50th anniversary of the lighting the tree.

KENTWOOD, MICH. - Tonight the city of Kentwood lit their Christmas tree.

The event also featured hay rides, pictures with Santa, and hot chocolate.

The city celebrated their 50th anniversary this year, so ending the year with this tradition was particularly special.

"You know, this is a great time to concentrate on hope, on joy, on peace, on unity. With all the things that are going on in the world and in our country, it's just nice to say, 'Hey, the holidays are a time to come together,'" said Stephen Kepley, the Mayor of Kentwood.

After the tree lighting, the East Kentwood High School Jazz Ensemble performed holiday music.
