Toys for Tots volunteers hit the aisles for a $5K shopping spree

Meijer donated $5000 to Toys for Tots, and volunteers shopped in the store to buy toys for kids.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Kent County Toys for Tots volunteers gathered at the Meijer in Standale for a very special shopping spree on Sunday, Nov. 19.

Meijer graciously provided $5,000 for volunteers to spend in the store -- which they thought would take about an hour or so.

The group focused on purchasing toys for tweens and teens -- both boys and girls -- because according to Toys for Tots, those are the groups that are commonly lacking in donations.

WZZM 13 is a media partner with Toys for Tots. Every year we encourage schools to collect toys for children in need and then we host the School Spirit Challenge as a finale. This year it's Friday, Dec.15.
