HQ, a local drop-in center for homeless youth celebrates 2 years in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-      November is National Runaway + Homeless Youth Awareness Month, and a nonprofit organization is sharing what that means in Grand Rapids and West Michigan.

Luke Petsch Development Director from HQ and Bob Johnson, West Michigan Caterer & The Apartment stopped by the WZZM News at Noon to share details.

What is HQ? It's a local drop-in center for youth ages 14-24 experiencing homelessness, runaway or whose housing is unsafe or unstable, will celebrate two years of operation alongside community members on Wednesday, November 9 with an 'HQ is You' Open House at its location, 320 State Street SE, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Since opening its doors in December 2014, more than 650 unique youth have received rest, resources and readiness as members served by the nonprofit. To meet the needs of a continually growing body of youth, HQ's team has expanded from four to 12 staff members — an increase of 200 percent — with plans to add at least two more before year-end.
