Jake's Festival: Free concert benefits diabetes research

GRAND RAPIDS. Mich. (WZZM) -- The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is working to find a cure for Type One Diabetes. A benefit concert will be held at the Wealthy Theater next weekend.

The free concerts were started in 2005 by Tom and Mary Scheidel of Rockford who were trying to raise funds for a cure after their son Jake was diagnosed with the disease when he was six.

Tom Scheidel joined us in studio to talk about the festival.

Jake's Festival is next Saturday, April 12th at the Wealthy Theater.

The concerts start at six p.m. with the last one starting at 11. Admission is free but they are asking for donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
