'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' premiered in West Michigan

Jumanji premiere in West Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle premiered tonight at Celebration Cinema North in Grand Rapids.

The film is based on the book Jumanji, which was written by West Michigan native Chris Van Allsburg.

Van Allsburg grew up in East Grand Rapids, and he was in the area signing books over the weekend. He is also the author of The Polar Express.

The movie was directed by a Jake Kasdan who is also a Michigan native. It stars Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black. 

Hospice of Michigan partnered with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Celebration Cinema to host the local premiere. Proceeds from the event go towards the Jo Elyn Nyman Anchors Program for Children.
