One Good Thing: Legends Drum & Bugle Corps

One Good Thing: Legends

KALAMAZOO, MICH. - CORRECTION: The Legends Drum and Bugle Corps performance is actually on Sunday, not Saturday.  They perform at 7pm, this Sunday, July 30th at Lakeland high School.

ORIGINAL STORY: Today's "One Good Thing" is a call for help that had an immediate -- and successful -- response.

The Legends Drum and Bugle Corps is based out of Kalamazoo. Very recently, the director, Ibe Sodawalla, realized they were in some serious financial trouble: Equipment trailers were breaking, food appliances were down, and housing needs were rising.  There was very real concern the season may have to be scraped.  Last week, Sodawalla went to YouTube and said, "Help."

"Today I'm hoping that you hear my plea for trying to make a goal of $100,000 possible in the next 24 hours," Sodawalla said in the video. "So, please help me today so the 147 individuals that are working on this experience as we speak today can continue to have the rest of the season and we can work onward and together."

Less than 48 hours later, the corps' campaign page hit their goal. Sodawalla share the good news on Saturday: the season was saved.

Sodawalla says the program now has long-term sustainability. The Legends Drum and Bugle corps is made up of more than 140 teenagers and young adults. They can still perform this Saturday in White Lake because of the generosity of others.

That is today's "One Good Thing."
