5 surprising places nuts could be hiding

Peanuts can be found in unusual places

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Food allergies can be dangerous even life threatening. Even a trace of peanuts can cause someone who is allergic to have a reaction.

WZZM 13 Health Reporter Valerie Lego tell us five places peanuts are hiding.

Chili. Peanut butter may not be a classic ingredient in this comfort food, but with chili cook offs and all kinds of ways to prepare things, you shouldn't assume it is safe.

French fries. Most frites are a-ok, but when grabbing them out, do ask about the oil.

Cocktails. Better ask what's in that signature cocktail before you knock it back.

Pet food. Is your toddler at the stage where she puts everything in her mouth? If she's allergic to peanuts or tree nuts, watch out for your dog food.

Gluten-free treats. A gluten-free cupcake or bread may seem harmless for all, but don't be fooled: It can pack lupin, "a legume frequently used as flour in gluten-free products that can cross react with a peanut."
