GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- It's a condition that is more common than you may think: narcolepsy affects one in 2,000 Americans.
The condition is a chronic brain disorder that involves poor control of sleep-wake cycles.
People with narcolepsy experience irresistible bouts of sleep that can strike at any time, lasting from a few seconds to several minutes.
Laura Fabrizio and her husband Patrick joined the WZZM 13 News at 5 to talk about the experience of their 14-year-old son Nicholas, who has been diagnosed with narcolepsy.
