Grand Rapids Filipino 'Parol' Lantern Celebration and Parade in Grand Rapids

A parol is an iconic symbol in the Philippines and is as important to Filipinos as the Christmas Tree is to Western cultures.

The first-ever Grand Rapids Filipino "Parol" Lantern Celebration is happening on Friday in Grand Rapids. A parol is an iconic symbol in the Philippines and is as important to Filipinos as the Christmas Tree is to Western cultures.

Join the group on a short 0.2 mile sidewalk parade. Meet at Old National Bank Downtown Grand Rapids (Monroe Ave, across from Rosa Parks Circle) at 5:30pm, and together the group will walk to the Sister-Cities Promenade, at the corner of Louis and Pearl (JW Marriott and in front of the Amway Grand Plaza).

Right after the parade, people will take part in lighting the special lanterns, and carolers will be singing Filipino Christmas songs. Special songs by a Philippine Madrigal singer, and short messages from leaders: "How Filipinos celebrate Pasko (Christmas)"
