When it comes choosing a healthy cereal it comes down to reading labels.

It's breakfast time! What did you choose this morning? Eggs, pancakes, cereal? Maybe cold pizza?

Midwesterners love their cold pizza for breakfast. About 45 percent would choose that over anything else -- but cold cereal comes in second at 35 percent.

On this National Cereal Day, there is one name brand that come out on top. Cheerios!

Here's why they are a winner: They’re low in saturated fat, cholesterol free, help lower cholesterol because they are made of whole grain oats, and they are low in sugar.

Trying to pick the healthiest cereal? Here’s want you want to look for:

  • Fewer than 10 grams of sugar
  • Least 3 grams of fiber
  • 3 grams of protein

Be sure to stick to the one cup serving and low-fat milk or almond milk if you are looking to cut down on sugar.
