Try It Before You Buy It: Instant Pot

We put the Instant Pot to the test in this Try It Before You Buy It report.

We put the Instant Pot to the test in this Try It Before You Buy It. It advertises as a 7-in-1 multi-use, programmable pressure cooker that claims to cook 70 perfect faster than a crock pot.

I gave it to Tisha Wilson of Rockford, a busy working mom who did some research on the Instant Pot beforehand. She agreed to try several of the recipes and report back to us about the results.

She loved the Instant Pot for several reasons.

Frozen chicken breasts were cooked to juicy perfection in just 30 minutes!

Tisha cooked an entire meatloaf and mashed potato meal in just 25 minutes. She used tin foil and a round pan to form the meatloaf before placing it inside, and that worked great.

It also worked great on a pork loin filet and sweet potatoes. She used the saute option to brown the meet right inside the instant pot, before following the rest of the instructions. The total cook time was just 30 minutes and the meat was juicy; the potatoes were perfect.

Crazy enough, the Instant Pot also worked great to boil a dozen eggs! Tisha said the shells just glide right off.

The only complaints Tisha had was that the 6-quart Instant Pot wasn't big enough for two full size squash to feed her whole family. But what she did cook turned out great, and she made a spaghetti squash stir fry with the frozen chicken breasts she had cooked in the Instant Pot the day before.

She said it was delicious!

She did say even after browning her bone in pork chop first, she thought it looked a little grey and not very eye-pleasing, since you cook it in water, but she can't complain about how juicy it was and how fast it cooked.

Overall, Tisha definitely gives the Instant Pot a thumbs up.

She would opt for the 8-quart option to give her more room for bigger meals. She also said she'd keep her crock pot, but can see herself using the Instant Pot more often because of how fast everything cooks.

Instant Pot comes in a mini 3-quart, a 6-quart and an 8-quart pot. The prices vary greatly, check store ads and online for the best price available.
