Muskegon Area Promise exceeding expectations

Promise organizers expected 170 eligible students would enroll at local colleges in Muskegon, but just over 200 eligible graduates accepted the Promise award.

School officials say a two-year program, Muskegon Area Promise, is exceeding their expectations for 2017.

The Promise is a scholarship program that provides money for tuition, book costs and fees for graduates of all 16 high schools in Muskegon County.

Promise organizers expected 170 eligible students would enroll at local colleges in Muskegon, but just over 200 eligible graduates accepted the Promise award.

The scholarship is funded by a mix of private, corporate, and public investments. It’s keeping an increasing amount of students in Muskegon County for the first two years of their post-high school education.

Organizers are now aggressively promoting the scholarship to students at every grade level.
