William & Mary hosted CNN Town Hall; Cooper interviewed Comey

A CNN Town Hall at the College of William & Mary moderated by Anderson Cooper will feature former FBI director James Comey.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WVEC) -- CNN anchor Anderson Cooper visited the College of William & Mary Wednesday for a live town hall meeting that featured former FBI director James Comey.

The event took place at 8 p.m. in Phi Beta Kappa Hall and will be broadcast nationally and internationally.

President Donald Trump fired Comey in 2017, initially indicating it was because of Comey's handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's email server.

Trump later said in an interview that the former FBI director was a "showboat" and a "grandstander" and said that the Russia investigation was on his mind when he fired Comey. That investigation was looking into possible collusion between Trump's associates and Russia, which the U.S. intelligence community said tried to influence the 2016 presidential election.

Cooper asked Comey about his book A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, & Leadership which was released April 17. Cooper also discussed Comey's firing with him and the high-profile cases he handled.

Members of the William & Mary community and people from across the country were part of the town hall audience. The majority of seats inside Phi Beta Kappa Hall were for William & Mary students.

The Student Assembly of William & Mary sponsored the town hall.

Comey, who graduated from William & Mary in 1982, is slated to begin teaching a three-credit course on ethical leadership for the school this fall.
