Hoekstra sworn in as ambassador to the Netherlands

Hoekstra served West Michigan as a U.S. congressman for 18 years.

Pete Hoekstra swore in as the ambassador to the Netherlands today, after serving West Michigan as a Republican U.S. congressman for 18 years.

Hoekstra is from Holland, Mich.

Vice President Pence gave Hoekstra the oath of office at the White House this afternoon.

Hoekstra was nominated for the position by President Trump in July, and he was confirmed by the Senate in November.

He previously served as chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and was the ranking Republican on the Committee until 2011.

U.S. Congressman Bill Huizenga from Zeeland was at the swearing in. Huizenga calls Hoesktra a mentor and he says he looks forward to working with him as we continue to develop and strengthen our relationship with the Netherlands.
