A meeting between two of the best basketball teams from a year ago lived up to the hype Tuesday night.
Godwin Heights tipped off their 2017-18 season with a win over West Ottawa, 78-67.
Wolverines guard Lamar Norman scored 25 points, going over the 1,000-point mark for his career. The senior will head to UTEP next year.
Xavier Wade scored a team high 18 for the Panthers. Drew Pedersen chipped in with 15 points, while senior Ty Bosma had 12.
The Panthers are fresh off of a 23-2 season that saw them lose the region championship on a buzzer-beater by Grand Rapids Christian. Last year Godwin Heights rose to to a number 1 ranking in Class B and won the OK Silver title and the District crown on the way to a 22-2 campaign.
Both teams look to be just as strong this season.
